Light Footed Traveller

I know that your eyes

Are fixed firmly upon the distant sunrise,

Watching the horizon, hoping to find,

Another adventure, and another prize

Some new wonder that I can not provide.

My light footed traveller,

I know you too well,

I knew you’d be gone, yes I could tell,

You left for another adventure,

Leaving behind a hole in my shell.

My light footed traveller,

I witness from distance,

Your rise and your fall, your constant commitment,

The wanderlust is too strong to resist,

And I cannot match up to the call in your spirit.

My light footed traveller,

I cannot keep with you,

I can only watch and cheer all you do,

A like or a smile, might as well be black smoke,

Signals as strong as this lead foot’s hope.

My light footed traveller,

I pray you return,

When at last your adventurous fires are burned,

But I know not the day, the place or time

But I hope that by then, your love I will have earned.

My light footed traveller,

Should I wait?
